No visit to Jersey is complete without a day at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, where you can see over 1,400 mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians in 31 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland, rivers, ponds and lakes. Among the endangered species living at Durrell are three generations of Sumatran orangoutans; mighty 'Ya Kwanza', the 225kg (35 stone) western lowland gorilla and his family; a Madagascan gentle lemur community; and rare Brazilian black-lion tamarins and silvery marmosets in open woodland.

Gerald Durrell's legacy to the world

Famous author and broadcaster Gerald Durrell founded the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust on Jersey nearly 50 years ago with the mission to save endangered wild animals from extinction; his park is the Trust's international headquarters and [plays a crucial role in this mission. Here, conservationists work closely with all the animals to better understand what is required to ensure they survive in their natural habitats. This information is shared with colleagues working on wild animal projects all over the world.

Fun for all the family

Voted the best on the island by visitors, Durrell's safely enclosed, animal-themed play area is perfect for youngsters. At the Education Centre, children can enjoy close encounters with reptiles and enjoy books, jigsaws and other play equipment. There's a new outdoor 'children's corner' too!

And catering for all tastes

You can get lunch boxes for the kids at the fabulous, buffet-style Dodo Restaurant. It opens at 9.30am with a full breakfast menu so 'feeding times' can start early... and you can eat inside or out on the scenic terrace all day! Don't forget the Gift Shop - a treasure trove of presents, souvenirs and Gerald memorabilia for all ages.

Durrell is just 4 miles north of St Helier in the Parish of Trinity, south of Bouley Bay.
